Audit log

This was suggested a couple of years ago and I don't think much has happened since. However, with the introduction of GDPR there is much more scrutiny on cyber security and becoming aware of data breaches. I therefore propose it is now more important than ever to be aware of who is accessing what within Insightly, and how records are being edited/deleted and downloaded. My suggestion is to implement:

  • An audit log detailing who has amended/deleted or downloaded what;
  • The ability to reverse any amendments;
  • The ability to view exactly what an individual may have downloaded;
  • Be able to view the audit log at any historic date; and
  • Download the audit log for additional review offline.

The above will provide greater comfort and reassurance that any malicious activity would be picked up early and rectified a lot sooner than is currently possible.

  • Hello Kurt,

    Thanks for your feature request!

    I do understand your desire to have this feature in Insightly. Please know the Ideas & Suggestions page is reviewed every few weeks or more to consider a feature for implementation.

    In the meantime I wanted to provide some helpful information regarding GDPR:

    • We now have an entire marketing page for GDPR (,
    • We've updated our Privacy Policy and made some minor changes in product.
    • There is a contract called the Data Processing Addendum that you have to download, fill out, and send back to us. You can find this contract in the Privacy Policy.

    All GDPR info plus some new very helpful articles can be found HERE.

    Thank you and we appreciate your patience on this.

  • To be honest, I cannot understand how any system used to perform any business activity does not have an audit trail. This was raised a year ago and there is still no visibility on where it is on the backlog, or if it even is. Internal auditing in any company with more than 5 employees would require this. While I understand that the target market for Insightly is SME they seem to forget that a single business unit within a bigger corporate can fit this mold and benefit from this model but they are still subject to corporate governance. Please, this is required otherwise all the effort invested in this product will be wasted.

  • I completely agree and it is very frustrating that this has not been implemented yet. I would expect the back-end to already keep log of all the actions a user performs, so bringing this forward so users can also see it seems a no-brainer.

    Insightly - please can you provide justification on why this crucial feature isn't being implemented?

  • I need this too. I want to see any updated records for a date range, with the Username and which fields were updated. Thanks.
