Insightly Sidebar and new Gmail

The Insightly Sidebar doesn't work well with the new Gmail interface. Right now, I must use the old "classic" gmail to achieve this. What are the plans for giving the Insightly Gmail Add-On the same functionality?

  • Hi John,

At this time, the Insightly Sidebar isn't compatible with the new design.

We are working on enhancing the Gmail Add-On and will notify Insightly customers once the enhancements/changes have taken place.

Feel free to also check out our Product News page for Insightly updates.

  • NOT solved.  Any update here?  We are about ready to cancel our insightly account, this is too painful.  And google no longer gives us a choice to use the classic interface.

  • Hello David,

As a company, it has been decided to focus all development efforts on our Insightly Gmail add-on as this uses Gmail's latest version of their API. The previous API version will be discontinued eventually. As a result, this means that Insightly has come to the decision to retire the Insightly Sidebar after 12/31/2018

Unfortunately, we are unable to review the issues with the Sidebar in more detail with our engineering team. Because of this, we are unable to provide a solution.

We recommend installing the new Insightly Add-on for Gmail. You can find an overview of the Add-on here: The Insightly Add-on for Gmail (beta)

For steps, including uninstalling the Sidebar, please see below:

    1. Remove the Insightly Sidebar by opening a Chrome window > three-dot icon > Settings > three dot icon menu > Extensions
    2. Locate Insightly and click to "Remove"
    3. Open the Gmail account that matches your Insightly login
    4. Locate the gear icon > Get add-ons
    5. Search for Insightly
    6. Select to install.
    7. Refresh your page in Gmail > click to open an email > you should see the Insightly add-on appear on the right-hand navigation bar for add-ons
    8. Allow Insightly permissions to view contacts, emails, etc
    9. Log into the Insightly add-on

There is always the option to use your Insightly mailbox address to save emails too.

I hope that gives you some options. And, I hope this helps clarify things.

  • The add-on does not have anywhere near the functionality of the sidebar, even for the simplest tasks.  With the prior version it was a one-click to save emails to insightly, and even better a one-click option to send-and-save.  We use the insightly mailbox address, but that requires a whole lot more clicks to put that in place.

If you are only doing the add-on, please try to actually improve the user experience.
