Automated Lead Status

I'm likely just doing something wrong, but something that drives me INSANE is the fact that leads that have been contacted via email, where the email activity even shows up in the lead account, are not automatically converted from NOT CONTACTED to CONTACTED.

Is this not possible?  If it is, how does one set that up?

    I believe this is designed to be a manual process so you would change the status prior but you could easily add some workflow automation and/or use a Zap to change it.

    One way I can see is to use a stage change to send an email rather than the built in. Another is to create a custom field called "email for automation" and copy the email address there upon lead creation. Then use Workflow Automation to send to that field.
