Tip
You will need a DevOps (Infrastructure) Engineer familiar with DNS to add a CNAME record for your subdomain.
Using a subdomain allows Insightly Marketing users to manage their Landing Pages separately from their main website domain. Using subdomains gives your team more control when publishing pages and running campaigns - without involving IT teams and facing possible delays.
Definitions
Subdomain
A subdomain is an additional part to your main domain name. Subdomains are used to navigate to different areas of your website.
Say your domain is insightly.gl and you plan to use marketing.insightly.gl as your new subdomain. The final URL for the Landing Page will be marketing.insightly.gl/landingpage.
DNS
DNS translates domain names to IP addresses so browsers can load Internet resources. The DNS resolution process converts a hostname into a computer-friendly IP address.
CNAME
A CNAME (Canonical name) record is an alias or nickname for another domain. A CNAME is often used to point a subdomain on your domain to an external service
The tools for DNS vary, because Insightly users will have access to different DNS providers. You can find some examples here or in your DNS provider’s Help Center.
Why use subdomains?
Subdomains offer marketers an opportunity to give Prospects a preview of what kind of content the link directs them to. By providing a domain such as try.example.com, it lets your Prospects know what to expect before they even start reading your Landing Page’s content.
How to setup
In this example, our CNAME settings are:
Type: CNAME
Host / Hostname: marketing
Destination / Points to: hosted.insightly.services
Create a new CNAME record for your subdomain first, pointing to "hosted.insightly.services".
Verify the new subdomain. For verification, you can use your browser, or a tool like MSToolbox. Make sure that marketing.insightly.gl points to hosted.insightly.services.
How to verify the Landing Page URL is in your own subdomain
Create a new Landing Page.
On Details tab you will find Page URL which contains the customized URL path. In this example, the URL path is demo/lp1.
Now you can manually combine the URL of your subdomain with the URL path of Page URL, marketing.insightly.gl/demo/lp1, and send it to your customers.
