Why am I not able to add a website to contacts?

Websites shouldn't be a custom field.

I'm not seeing a way to add a website to contacts.

  • Websites are for Organizations, not Contacts.

You'll find it as a standard field there.

  • Hi Eric:

You may also want to check out the Ideas & Suggestions page to see if this has been submitted by another user and add your vote. If you don't find it, you can add a new thread :) For now, it can be added as a Custom Field in a Contact record.

  • What process triggered the decision to make websites for organizations only? Realtors, insurance agents, network marketers, soloprenuers, self employed people are just a few of the examples of the need for websites for individual contacts.

  • Bruce - seems like the decision was to put up a paywall so we'd have to pay to add additional custom fields...That's just what it seems like from my perspective, but I really do not believe that websites should be custom fields for contacts.

  • Hi everyone:

The changes were made to help get set up for future improvements such as faster reports, easier importing, automatic import of emails from Gmail or Outlook just to name a few. Additional details on the recent update are outlined here.

  • @Eric - I agree with you on the website/contact issue 100%. On the "paywall" issue though - not so much. Any company (Insightly included) has to draw the line somewhere as to what they're willing to offer for free and what users have to pay for. I'm fine with paying them for our account as it's a vital part of our business.

@Bruce - All of the things that you mentioned - substitute "organization" or "company" for "contact". Solopreneurs are still companies as are realtors, network marketers or anything else you can think of. I've experienced this with every single CRM I've ever worked with - and I've worked with a lot. Sometimes you need to change your terminology to match the CRM - not expect them to change it so it suits your business. It will make it much easier on you to look at it this way - otherwise you'll never be happy with any solution. Or, you can simply get a subscription and add all the custom fields you need. :)

  • Once you add the website to the Organization, you can access the website through the Contact tab by hovering over the organization field within the contact.

  • I agree the system needs to be updated. To add a contact and all their information, including website information. I had to go through 3 different steps.

We should be able to add everything on one page and the system divides out the individual contact, the organization identity. Also, it should have the website and all other information in the personal contacts and organizational contact as well.

The developers should look into this because it is an issue, remember we do not contact a company, we contact a person from that company. So all information needs to be under each contact.

Also we should be able to add Tags when we add the contacts. Not have to go find the contact later and then add the tags.
