Bulk Update via Import

Hey!

Are there any plans to incorporate a bulk update ability via importing? I realize the way Insightly is currently set up that it's looking for duplicates, but it would be super awesome if I could also update existing records just by adding a new column to my spreadsheet.

  • I can understand that it's been a bit quiet during the summer, but this is rather strange.

  • I am also wondering when development for this will be completed and this function added?

Will this allow me to add tags to existing Contacts & Leads via Import?

  • Any update on the timeline for this feature? Would be great to see it implemented ASAP.

I would like to see this feature allow us to import new data into existing contacts. If possible, it would be good if this ability was also available for leads.

  • This will be a HUGE help for us. We have a need to add custom field data, tags, etc to many multiple contacts many times per year. As of now we have to manually check to find contacts that are already in Insightly before running an import so we can update rather than import just those contacts. Being able to go ahead and run the import and tell Insightly to update any already existing and add those not found as new is a must have feature!

  • Insightly now supports updating existing CRM records via an import from a CSV or Excel file with our New Import Wizard.

With this new feature, you can now update your Insightly records in bulk. So, you’ll never have to manually update numerous records again. For example, if you just exhibited at a trade show, received a list of booth visitors and want to mark them as such in Insightly, you can now easily do it with just a few clicks. And, not only does it update existing records, but it also adds new records if a match isn’t found. And, if you think this only supports leads or contacts, you’ll be happy to know that the new Import Wizard allows you to update all Insightly records; leads, contacts, organizations, opportunities, projects and tasks.

For updates on import - it works best if you export the records you would like to change from Insightly, then make the edits, and import them back into Insightly.

Learn more this new feature in our help articles. And, if you just want to learn about importing to Insightly, in general, consult our Importing Guide.

  • Thank you! I used it today, and it worked perfectly. A tip is that you need the record ID to match to the record for updating, so be sure to export, edit then upload the file with this field so the data can be matched.

  • The bulk upload thing that you just released is completely useless.  I just updated a bunch of records and half the information has not imported or has imported in a non-obvious way.  For example, adding a "role" has not registered, nor has changing someone's company (to one that exists in the system).  It's annoying that only one phone number downloads when multiple ones are stored in a column and annoying that phone numbers are added rather than replaced when uploading.  This feature needs fixing urgently.

  • I must concur on the phone number deal.  I wanted to get the formatting consistent across all my contacts, forget that idea!!

  • Yes, that's what I was trying to do - I now have masses of phone numbers saved for each contact and no way to delete them in bulk.  *grumpyface*

  • Guys,

I've been following this request for a long, long, long time. My firm has been ecstatic with the current feature. As all the explanations outline, this bulk upload feature only works on "non-multiple fields", and so won't work on phone numbers, addresses, emails, etc.

I've got to say, insightly is still the best and most flexible "bang for buck" CRM of its kind, as I've unfortunately had to test drive many, many similar products over the years for our firm. Man, if you want "perfect", then you need to go to Microsoft Dynamics, and it can do everything for its price (including programmer).... which is BIG....

My only concern is that Insightly will eventually deliver all the goodies we need, but that you'll need to be a "premium" customer to get these goodies ... I hope note :-(

  • Hi,

The bulk update via import does not work correct. It can't empty a field. E.g, if there is a value in a custom field and that is removed in the update file, the old value is still there. This is the response I got from Insightly Support (#172131):

"Bulk Imports were not designed to remove information or delete fields from records within Insightly. It was meant as a way to update existing information like a new address or phone number."

Insightly is a very good CRM, but there are too many feature that are just almost done. This is one of them.
