Customizable Contact/Organization Views

When I look at the Contacts or Organizations tabs, there is a very defined set of values that are listed, and this cannot be changed or customized in anyway.  Turns out I don't really care about the Org's address, but I do care about some of the Custom fields we have entered for them, and I want to be able to see those on the fly without making a huge number of tags.  Almost to the flexibility of a spreadsheet.

When evaluating CRMs, we looked at Nutshell which did have the feature, and it almost made us pick them over Insightly.

    Hi everyone,

So where are we on all this? Well, this thread has discussed two distinct improvements:

    1. Custom List Views -- which allow you to choose which record details you want to see when filtering and sorting your lists of Opps/Contacts/etc.

    2. Custom Record Layouts -- which let you rearrange or hide the data you see when viewing an Opp/Contact/etc.

I'm happy to share that #1 is complete with last year's release of the new Insightly user experience. (If you're still using the old version, you can try out the new one in system settings.)

And equally excited to let you know that #2 is real closeNo official timeframes yet, but the internal beta version is looking good.

Thanks for your patience everyone. Big things coming!

    - John

  • Agree.   Contact view now is skimpy - name  (email below) and Position at XX company.

would like to parse the data into columns so I can sort my view by any of the meta data (which I would like to add to current view).   The  only sort option we have  (when clicking the wrench) is first name and last name.   That's it

would like the view to be in any order desired with a click:  last name order, company order, city order, state order ...whatever you like.

  • That is also my biggest shortfall of Insightly. I want to customise the view and see phone numbers etc in the list view

  • Agreed. This would be a very valuable feature. I want to see other attributes than physical addresses...

  • Completely agreed. I am forced to track certain data in other tools since I can't easily get a filtered view of the data points that I need.

  • Hi everyone. Thanks for adding your comments to Chris' post. I excited to report that we will be looking at revamping our UI to bring you ways to customize how you want to see your list view. Please continue leaving your valuable feedback and voting and commenting so you can help influence our product roadmap!

  • Great to hear that this is in the works Brenda. Here is my wish list of features:

    • Please ensure that custom fields are available as well. If people are taking the time to create custom fields then it is probably priority data that they will want to leverage
    • Ability to save different views & set default view
    • Exportable to Excel in the same customized format
    • Click column headers to sort by any column

  • I need to be able to customize my contact list so that I don't have to go through each individual name in order to find information. Like phone numbers zip codes.

  • I agree!  I came from being a CRM Admin at a company that used Microsoft Dynamics CRM.  There were pretty much unlimited options for customizing your views.

It will be so valuable when Insightly adds this feature.  As mentioned above, I need to focus my efforts by using this feature without having to re-do set-up work each time I want to narrow in on a certain set of clients or organizations.

Once you have the ability to edit which columns appear in each view (including custom fields, of course), it will be helpful to quickly be able to filter on those columns (for example, of these clients, which ones were referrals or which ones work at ABC Company).  It will also be helpful if we can sort A-Z or Z-A just by clicking on the column header.

Thanks for your work on this!  If you need help or ideas as you go, please let me know.

  • Hi,

I am very pleased that this is being worked on.  Please make sure that all views (Leads, Contacts, Organizations) have the same set of customization.  thanks!

  • Agreed...if you're developing in iterations to get it out fast, here are my priorities:

    1. Ability to create custom list views (including custom fields)
    2. Ability to set a default custom list view
    3. Ability to sort the list view by column headers

  • Completely agree with the above comments as I am really surprised that Custom Views are not possible at the moment!

Also custom fields in views will help to work much more efficient.

  • I'm evaluating the free version as an alternative to ACT!.  The inability to customize the contact view and sort by column headings is a deal killer.  Evaluation over.  Will check for that feature at a later date.

  • The new Advanced Reporting features (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmxZ2JWj4ew&feature=youtu.be) add quite a bit of this functionality, so that may be worth a look.  Hopefully some of those features will be brought closer to the front; currently it's a bit deeply hidden.  For instance, it would be great to be able to have Reports bookmarked and accessed directly from the front page.

  • Brenda, I'm excited to hear that there's talk of revamping the UI. I spent several hours today looking at my other CRM options because of this very issue. A better designed/more modern and customizable UI is very important to me. I would highly suggest using Agile CRM's UI as a reference point.

  • Hey Guys ( Brenda it may seem ), when do you think this will become somewhat available giving that the thread is about a year old, reason i ask is this is something that will determine if my company subscribes.

  • Hi Everybody:

This was on our road map as Brenda mentioned. And while we really wanted to bring this feature to you, the resources are not available due to existing projects and features already in development. We hope to add this at some time.

Advanced Reporting does help with segmenting your data, maybe this is an option for you.

  • Insightly,

This discussion is over a year old and shows no resolution on your part. To some of your users this is a very important feature that will decide why they do not choose Insightly after your trial offer. So close but so far with this issue and your response to your existing customers and the continued features they need. Signing up new customers looks great but if you really want to retain income you should pay attention to design features like this.
