Time tracking

why so many project management apps leave out this basic feature is beyond me. I personally dislike having to integrate a 3rd party application to simply log time for a task.

This is why i left basecamp. Granted i'm a free customer, but I will be first to sign up for a paid account if this feature becomes available.

  • For every customer I use a Google Sheet. Not very comfortable, but every time tracking app I tested was too complicated or too expensive. I only need start and end time and/or duration in hh:mm. At the end of the month >I want to generate a report for my customer as a second page of my invoice. A very simple, but effective way! So I´m still waiting in patience for new features of the task and report app... ;-)

  • We (Write Well Media) have built an integration between Insightly and Google Sheets for Customer/Opp/Project/Task specific time tracking. Using the Insightly API, valid values for each of these items are presented to the user in a drop down list, so all you have to do is choose the date of the activity and enter your time.  If anyone is interested I'll be happy to discuss or demo it to you

  • It is great to see the strong interest in a time tracking component for insightly. Are there any updates about when this feature may get rolled out? I believe this discussion thread started about a year ago. I currently use Toggl and it would save me additional time having this tool be part of insightly. Thank you.

  • Hi Wolfgang,

Tracking is still on our list of features we hope to implement this year, we don't have an available time frame. We'll let you know if this changes.

  • It would be great to see an integration available for TOGGL. This is the time recording tool that my organisation uses, and we would prefer to not have to pay extra money to use zapier or a similar program.

  • Dear John and all other persons reacting:

This is another issue where Insightly reacts in a likewise manner. Someone brings an issue and an Insightly keeps on repeating that it is on their list they hope to implement. I still believe Insightly is a very good CRM, but they are not very good in offering improvements. They keep on reporting that it is an issue that they are working on. The same situation happens with integrating or synchronising Insightly with Outlook 2016.

  • It is frustrating too because often insightly is advertised as having a huge number of integrations, however the reality is that these are only possible with an application like Zapier.

I too think it is a great CRM, but it is missing a few key features compared to its competitors.

  • We use Springahead and would need integration with Intuit Quickbooks.

  • While insightly is working on Timetracking, I can recommend Timecamp

I prefer it to Toggl because it is less expensive and allows you to track sub-tasks/sub-projects. It also allows you to use insightly links to track the time you spent on a task against the organization to which it is linked. You can also track time against contacts and so on.

I have seen Timecamp evolve over several years and my hunch is that it will take insightly quite a while to come up with anything that comes close to it. (In fact, I think that insightly should rather improve its CRM rather than investing resources into another service, but that's just my two cents.)

Using the chrome browser plugin, Timecamp already now integrates nicely into the insightly UI, as if it were part of insightly:

  • Also waiting on this feature! Still on the free system but would gladly pay if we could get time tracking built in.

  • I didn't read through all 70+ comments but I hope that in addition to the task and project timing you can also add a simple feature for each employee to time in and out at the end of each day, and it can tally up hours worked per week for those paid hourly. Looking forward to this update!

  • I use Freshbooks for tracking time.

I would like to click on a timer when I start working on a task, and then stop the time when I stop working on the task. This way I can keep track of how long each task takes me. This would be better than at the project level.

Any idea when this feature will be live?

  • after reading your 75+ comments i decided to give timecamp a go, works great with google chrome, only issue is that i cannot see the other users time on a given project, only my time, probably due to the api connecting 1 user at a time, i spoke to timecamp about the issue and they said it had to be programmed on insightly's side.

i will keep trying other time trackers, until insightly programs a timer we'll have to be patient!

  • I agree 1000% that a built-in time tracking method would be a great tool. We are currently using TimeCamp but the Insightly integration is garbage. It doesn't provide us with an overall view of how long the entire team has spent on the project (which is the data we really want). Rather, it only shows the time that I personally spent on the project. As the owner of the company, I only benefit from a complete overview and want to see how much time was spent by my entire team on a project. Also, the TimeCamp integration shows a ton of redundant data which clutters up our projects. Since the "time spent" category appears as a header, it shows up inside of every group that we have in a project We have multiple groups, so we see the same timecamp data 3 or 4 times on the screen. It's terrible. Not trying to bash TimeCamp or anything but it didn't seem like there was a fix for these issues anywhere on their roadmap. I'd love to have this feature provided directly from Insightly!!!

  • I agree with Dave on this one. We need a better way of managing all team members and contractors working on a project.

  • We have 10 paid users and we have been waiting this time-tracking feature for a while. It has been more than a year and still seems that Insightly has not make progress with this PLANNED feature. It may be time to start looking other PM/CRM tools that actually handle that basic feature. If any of you in this community knows other service and feels as frustrated as we are, please share that other CRM/PM that may provide this basic time tracking.

  • We also have paid account and have been waiting--and waiting--for this feature. Been using Harvest for our time and billing (fantastic product). But tired of juggling two systems that don't talk to each other (and no, Zapier doesn't count). We are moving to another CRM/PM product this month. It's a pain migrating and mapping the data, but we've waited long enough.

  • We're going with PracticePanther--but it is more focused on law practices. But we did strongly consider Apptivo and almost went with them instead.

  • DMS, thank you for sharing, Apptivo seems like a good option, more features and less expensive. We will try it.

  • Needing a solution to work the way I my business does, I couldn't wait any longer for Insightly to add time tracking.  We've switched to BlueCamroo for CRM and it's working great as an all-in-one solution with time tracking, projects, accounting, email campaigns (with or without Mailchimp) and it has a social media scout feature to help boost my sales without yet another 3rd party solution.  I'm still setting up customization, but this past month has been so much easier with time tracking.  Insightly just relies on too many 3rd party integrations for our preferences...including having to create a separate login for this help forum.  Good luck to everyone!

  • Almost 2 years later, the most upvoted suggestion seems forgotten by Insightly. Do they really care about their customers opinion?
There is a lot of old requests marked as planned on suggestions page...
