Link Dropbox Folders

It would be great if you could link folders, not just files, from Dropbox to Insightly and when any new files are added to Dropbox folders it automatically updates in Insightly - can this be done?

  • Hello Amanda, thank you for your feedback!

While we don't have this feature currently, I do understand why it would be a useful addition.

Thank you for letting us know!

  • Not just for Dropbox - for Directories on our computers as well.

The issue is ongoing synchronization, of course. If we have to manage every file change's sync in order to keep Insightly current, why would we ever use the Files feature? It might work if we're just attaching copies of marketing collateral we have sent, but Insightly is supposed to be useful for managing projects. The reality is that Insightly will almost never be ground zero for files associated with a project, because it isn't shared with customers/clients. So it has to play well with entire directories that are somewhere else.

Or am I missing something about Insightly? I am pretty new to it.

  • I would like to just add the link to the folder from the files page of the project. I don't necessarily need the list of files to be synced constantly.

  • Agree with

I, too, would like to link to a folder in DropBox, just like linking to a folder in Google Drive, which works right now. It probably will take the similar code to set that up. Please look into this. It would make lot of sense and life much easier. Thanks.

  • I also agree, linking to Google Drive, Box, Sync and Dropbox folders - and being able to navigate within the folder that would be ideal.

  • I would like this feature as well. Also, Am I missing something - while I have linked my google drive and my Dropbox when I create a new email and want to add an attachment or use PandaDocs I still have to use the external link? Have I integrated this incorrectly?

  • I would also like to see a feature like this. I asked support desk about it some time ago and was told that only files were possible.

If it helps anyone else, here is the workaround I came up with.

Create a custom field that displays and links to the Dropbox folder for the particular contact or organisation, by using the link generated by Dropbox itself.

As others have mentioned on other posts, it would also be useful to have a link that would go to the local folder on your computer as well, but I haven't been able to achieve that myself yet.

As another thought, I would love to see a tab on the contact and organisation record, that could display all the files stored in the relevant Dropbox folder after you have linked it to the contact. it would have to be a proper link that populated the list whenever the tab was opened, in order to be always up to date. Imagine how productive it would be to be able to just select a file that was listed there. Maybe I should start a new suggestion for that.
