Need email alias

We set up our Googleapps account under our corporate name. Google has no way to let you change the primary domain name but they do let us have aliases.

My corporate email address is confusing to customers who expect that email are coming from my dba.

There should be some way to change outgoing emails from insightly to use an alias (at the very least the aliases recognized by Google)

This renders an awful lot of functionality useless to me.

  • Thank you for providing this example Rhys. We don't have this on our roadmap at this time but we’re continuously evaluating the features we offer and having specific scenarios helps us to understand what users need as tools :)

  • It really should be on your roadmap.  You say you integrate with googleapps but if you don't allow us to use the aliases that google apps does. That is simply inaccurate.

I like a lot of what you are doing but the more I try to really use insightly on a daily basis, the more disappointed I become. I am beginning to see why other CRMs charge more. I am compelled to check out if paying double would get me a CRM I can actually use.

  • This is a show-stopper for us.

Every other CRM system we have evaluated has the ability to set up multiple sending addresses for outbound emails.

Insightly is useless to us without this feature.

  • Seriously... We just got a paid account, and we're now starting to integrate everything. And you have no idea when this could be integrated? If there's no idea, I'm going to cancel my subscription right away. It's a basic feature...

  • I am starting to dig in as well, if Insightly is truly crm I require aliasing as our company gmail domain is not what our web domain is. Must provide same level aliasing as google apps!

Without this feature its just a database, with no real power.

  • Same Here, no option to use an Alias from gmail is a show stopper.

  • And everything looked so good up until here. No gmail aliases is a definitive deal breaker.

  • No alias?  This should be a priority.  Also deal breaker for me.

  • Were you able to use your domain alias?

  • I don´t think so, or? Emailing without domain aliases means that I can not use all of your great email features. For me it is one of the major reasons not to change to a paid account!! I can´t understand why this is not at the top of your roadmap... My main Google domain email address is only for administrative use, for daily life I use an alias email address. This is a quite normal behavior, I think. I believe this feature will bring you a lot of new customers. May be you have enough... ;-) ;-)

  • This has not been fixed with the new update. in fact it broke the existing work around for people who use gmail aliases.

  • Hi James,

You may be referring to something different. I am replying to your inquiry under your second post. :)

  • Support for Google aliases is so basic and absolutely essential for my company as well. Insightly was looking so good until we hit this. How is this basic feature and normal part of Google apps integration not available or even on the roadmap?

Thanks Chris for trying to offer a work around, but that is incredibly complex and hard to follow.

Insightly, if you are claiming to integrate with google Apps, this is a fundamental part of Google Apps integration. The rest of your platform looks so good.

  • I just opened an Insightly account to evaluate if it will work for our needs. I love A LOT about what I've experienced from the user interface to many of the features, BUT this email alias functionality is so important for our business and so many other businesses, like the ones who have already commented.

I completely understand why it is a dealbreaker for those who have commented and likely many others who have not commented. Due to the lack of this functionality, Insightly is likely losing countless of customers because due to the lack of it, it voids use of your attractive features that users are paying for, such as email templates and statistics and automated workflows. Do you understand this?

I'm shocked to discover that you launched the feature to send mail from within Insightly using an external mail server without having the insight (pun intended) to know how important the alias feature is. I'm even more shocked that it is not even on your roadmap.

It's standard for businesses like mine to need to send multiple role-based emails out from one email account such as: info@, wholesale@, support@, ++ This is why your competitors have this feature and are gaining customers that could have been yours.

I highly suggest you prioritize the development of this feature. I think you will gain many more paying customers. From what I've experienced, you have a superior product in many ways, but this feature is so essential.

  • I would like to add my name to the list requesting the addition of support for a gmail alias email account.  I started to attempt Chris's solution, but frankly, it's a little complicated for me and I don't want to risk causing problems with my business email. Insightly? Any word on this?

Chris, if I attempt your method and add an 'SMTP relay', which will 'route my outbound mail using the SMTP relay service', will that affect my regular use of my gmail account with my normal gmail address and my alias from within the Gmail interface? I am not all that savvy with this stuff and am afraid of messing something up. I definitely want to continue using Gmail for personal and business interactions, but I want to be able to use Insightly for business email chains with prospective clients so I can track interactions with them. I hope that's clear. Thanks for sharing your solution Chris!

  • For us, having the ability to use an alias address when sending email, is also critically important. Cannot believe that this is taking so long :-(

  • Not critical, but very important feature.

Could there be a way on the account admin side to verify domains and make them available to send from?  Or ask for alias email, send a confirm link that validates it works/connected to that persons account, and offer it an a choice in the send prompt?
