  • There are no fixed rules as to how you use the different records in Insightly. Different organisations will use them differently and many will use them the same way and others will use them completely differently. It has to fit your organisation structure.

In general, however, you would create an opportunity when you have had contact with a contact that may purchase from you. You opportunity can be set up to be as simple as won or lost or it could be set up using pipelines as a much more nuanced process consisting of different degrees of engagement.

If your organisation sells products that are more or less off the shelf then the concept of projects may not be relevant (although I am sure that someone is using them in a way that I had not imagined). However if your sales process leads to a further implementation or "project" (which could be defined in many different ways) then you would convert your opportunity to a project and go through stages of implementing your post sales process with your client.

As I said there is no one way to implement Insightly and you should try different alternatives to see what suits your organisation.
