Fields and saving edits to email template gone rogue

I recently noticed that one of the fields (Role/Title) I had inserted into an email template (quite a while ago) wasn't pulling in the data anymore — just leaving it blank. I re-checked everything and tried to re-do the field, but no change. So I then tried to change the field to another one that is still working (First Name) and the system wouldn't let me save. It acted like it was saved, but immediately reverted to the original version. I am making these revisions in the actual email template area, not in a preview.

Any thoughts? I thought that originally the field name in the Contact record was called Role. Now it says Title. However, the name for this in the email template is Role/Title. If there was a change to this due to the recent improvements, would this be causing my issue? It still doesn't explain why I can't save any revisions!

  • Hi Josh,

If I understand your question/concern, the email template is not pulling in the title, (Manager, Vice president), etc. Correct?

Several things come to mind - is the contact properly set up? Are you saving the changes once in edit mode?

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Melissa, well, kind of correct. I've been using this same template for a couple of years without problems. I use several fields in the template that pull in info. Only one has stopped working — the Role/Title field. That's why I was thinking during the recent system upgrade, maybe they got rid of "Role" in the Contact form (I thought it was once there, but no longer) and are just using "Title," yet forgot to take out the word "Role" in the field insertion tool? I could be way off, but I'm grasping at straws. Since I wasn't able to fix it by redoing it, I tried to get around it by changing the field to something else. But now I am unable to save the changes. I click Save and it spins for a few seconds, then looks like it's done, but when I view the form again, nothing has changed. I've tried over and over, logged in and out, etc.

Thank you for trying to help troubleshoot!

  • Hi Josh,

I wonder if you should 'Submit a Request' ticket. It sound like it may be a technical issue.

You can find the orange button at the top beside your name. Please see below for example.

  • Hmm. Not only didn't I see it, I'm not sure I know what that means (or where to look)! :-(
