Custom Objects Related Links

Hello Insightly Team!

Please allow custom objects to have multiple related links without requiring custom lookup relationship fields; similar to how organizations and contacts work (minus the primary linked organization field, of course).

Thank you,

  • Yes please! We'd like to be able to link multiple contacts, projects, notes, tasks and other records to a Custom Object without having to have a custom lookup field.

  • I have created a custom object called "Support Request" and I would like to be able to add multiple tasks and notes to instances of this object. I can't see how to do that currently

  • Hi Daniel,

I don't think tasks can be linked to custom objects yet. I recommend following this thread here and wait till custom fields are available with tasks.

Alternatively, you can also use projects with milestones and tasks to create support requests.

Let me know if you need any help.

    Thank you,

  • I need feature as well; Its very confusing the way it works now.

I especially get confused trying to get the related tab to work in the Custom Object cause it seems to be one way. Or is there smarts built in that keeps these synch'd I haven't tried to break yet?

If I have a lookup field for the owner/primary contact in the custom object (Membership) pointing at Contact (name) pointing at a Tom Jones. I edit the related view to add Membership object to the Contact related tab/view; but the Contact isn't available to add to the Membership's related.

So I have to add a custom lookup field to CONTACT pointing at Membership (Account Name), NOW Membership appears as something I can add to RELATED view for Membership.

However in my head this could mean I can have CONTACT related to one Membership and the Membership pointing back at a different Contact unless remember to update BOTH relationships.

Membership AAA  --- > Tom Jones but

    Tom Jones ---> Membership BBB

  • Hi Sean,

Yes, that's generally how it works right now. I believe you can also add a contact custom lookup field to the custom object and link a new contact to the custom object from the custom object record instead. The relationship is a separate object that relates both the contact and custom object, so you don't need to update it twice.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thank you,

  • I hope that's true about the RELATED link being an object in the background so it doesn't break relationship; it makes sense and I'll have to test. That means instructions for related links should include created BOTH lookup directions/instances since the system doesn't create both ends and it also means for every custom lookup field we have to use TWO instances of a custom field which is somewhat double dipping into a limited resource.
