Gmail Sidebar won't recognise second email address

Hi everyone, 

I am aware that you can only have one email address per contact within Insightly. I have added a second as a custom field and ensured that the Data Type is set to 'email'.

When linking an email using the Gmail Sidebar, it fails to recognise when an email address is already registered under the second email custom field and asks me to add the contact again. This is resulting in loads of duplicate contacts, which seems stupid. 

Any ideas at all? I really hope that this can be sorted easily!
